BACKGROUND:
Sharon was born August 4, 1967 in Miami, FL, and is a native South Floridian. After graduating in 1992 with a doctorate degree in Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) from
Southeastern University, she passed her boards and became a Registered Pharmacist. Sharon then continued her pharmacy education completing a one year American
Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited residency in Pharmacy Practice at the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Miami, FL. After
several years of pharmacy practice she returned to Nova Southeastern University to receive a Juris Doctorate in 1998.
EXPERIENCE:
Sharon has worked in both her degreed fields in various capacities. She began her pharmacy career as a resident at the VAMC in Miami and was then hired as the
Patient Care Coordinator for Trauma and Critical Care Services at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center. During her pharmacy
practice years, Sharon was an active participant of the Administrative Affairs Counsel of the Florida Society of Health Systems Pharmacists. She also served as the President of the South Florida Society of Hospital Pharmacists. Sharon worked hard providing continuing education to her peers and training her
hospital staff in regulatory affairs including Joint Commission (JCAHO), safety, biohazardous waste/infection control as well as general staff development.
During law school, Sharon worked with a well known health care professional’s insurance company as a malpractice defense counsel intern assisting in the representation
of hospitals, physicians and other health care practitioners in South Florida. Sharon was hired with this same firm after successful completion of law school and
continued her defense practice. In 1999, she joined a prominent plaintiff’s firm in Fort Lauderdale where she quickly rose to partner. Her practice included
medical malpractice, wrongful death and products liability. Sharon’s work resulted in winning numerous multimillion dollar plaintiff’s verdicts.
Most recently, Sharon worked as a Drug Agent/Inspector with the State of Florida, Department of Health’s Drug, Device and Cosmetics Program (DDC). Her role with
the State was to inspect and investigate all entities that manufacture and/or distribute drugs, devices or cosmetics in or into the State of Florida. As an inspector/investigator,
Sharon was able to successfully assist the State in collecting some of the largest and most frequent regulatory fines since the inception of the program.
Sharon’s current practice, “Of Counsel,” with Metzger, Grossman, Furlow and Bayo´ pools all her experience to include the representation of healthcare entities and
professional health care licensees before regulatory agencies. The emphasis of her practice is consulting on the laws and rules affecting pharmacies,
prescription drug (veterinarian and human) wholesalers, prescription and over-the-counter drug, re-packers device and cosmetic manufacturers
and durable medical equipment providers offering medical oxygen sales, manufacturing and deliveries. Sharon also works with Certified Designated
Representatives (CDR’s) providing training, education and representation.
